Kyrell Lisbie shines as Peterborough end their 23-year wait for a win at Wycombe

Peterborough ended a 23-year hoodoo at Wycombe, where goals from Kyrell Lisbie and Cian Hayes secured a 2-0 victory in Sky Bet League One.

The victory meant it was also the first time Posh, who won a League Cup tie at Wycombe in 2009, had done the double over their opponents.

The Chairboys nearly took the lead inside 12 seconds through Bradley Fink. The Swiss striker, making his second league start of the season, fired a half-volley wide of Alex Bass’ goal.

The opening stages belonged to Wanderers as Caolan Boyd-Munce saw his long-range shot in the eighth minute brush the top of the net.

However, Wycombe began to burn out as Peterborough began to grow into the contest.

The visitors took the lead in the 37th minute through Lisbie. The winger, the son of former Charlton forward Kevin,  finished off a well-worked move from close-range for his eighth goal of the season and his third in four games.

Wanderers reacted as Jack Grimmer and Boyd-Munce saw their attempts just before the break go wide, while Jimmy-Jay Morgan could have doubled the Posh’s advantage on the stroke of half-time but shot wide of Will Norris’ goal.

Fink nearly equalised moments into the second period, while a Cauley Woodrow header was cleared off the line.

However their efforts were in vain as Hayes doubled the lead in the 69th minute, the winger sweeping home a Lisbie cross on the counter-attack to ensure Posh’s first league success at Adams Park in November 2003.
