Veteran striker David McGoldrick ended his 16-game wait for a league goal with a brace – including a last-minute winner – in a 2-1 win against Blackpool.
McGoldrick had opened the scoring for the Reds in the first half but former Barnsley striker Ashley Fletcher levelled in the second half, before the 38-year-old won it in added time.
Blackpool had the game’s first real chance in the 23rd minute but Tom Bloxham was denied brilliantly from close range by debutant goalkeeper Owen Goodman.
The Reds opened the scoring in the 27th minute as Bailey Peacock-Farrell’s wayward pass was cut out by McGoldrick who curled the ball around the keeper from 30 yards out.
Bloxham had another chance before the break to level the scoreline and the hosts should have doubled their lead through Patrick Kelly early in the second half.
Fletcher thought he had rescued a point for his side in the 74th minute but McGoldrick finished off a fantastic counter attack in front of the home fans in the third minute of added on time.
