Walsall were knocked off the top of Sky Bet League Two as Oldham snatched a 2-1 victory in the dying seconds, ending the hosts’ eight-match unbeaten run in the process.
The visitors snatched victory in the last of the six minutes added on when a corner was headed in at the near post by substitute Kian Harratt.
The Saddlers almost made a dream start after 75 seconds when Evan Weir’s half-volley looked destined for the bottom right corner, only for Latics goalkeeper Mathew Hudson to deny him with a fine save.
Walsall keeper Myles Roberts was called on to block a Kai Payne effort in the eighth minute and the visitors went close again when Tom Pett’s effort was deflected wide on the quarter-hour mark.
It was from the resulting corner that Oldham broke the deadlock, Joe Garner heading home from 10 yards.
Walsall started the second period in a similar fashion to the first and were level in the 50th minute. Jamille Matt played the ball out to Daniel Kanu on the left of the area and he drilled his shot beyond Hudson.
However, Harratt’s late intervention ensured Oldham were the winners.
