Huddersfield manager Lee Grant saw a lot of positive signs in his side’s 3-1 win over Rotherham.
Three goals in the first half put the Terriers in a commanding position and will ease some of the pressure that was mounting on Grant.
Their first win in six games dragged them to within just three points of the play-off places in League One.
Grant felt his side pulled off the gameplan worked on during training.
“The lads put a lot of hard work in this week,” he said.
“They were really determined and what we and they have talked about really translated.
“It was a step in the right direction and we have got to keep pushing and make sure that sets the foundation for next week.
“It’s really hard for me to pick which half I enjoyed the most.
“The goal took the shine off it of course but I loved the second half. I am incredibly pleased.
“We gave Rotherham nothing. I think they had one shot in the box and it went in. We have got to fix that.
“The next thing for the group is to see the clean sheet through.
“We need to retain the focus and recognise the fight and work that is needed.”
Lynden Gooch got the first when he finished off a slick move involving loan star Leo Castledine and Bojan Radulovic.
Radulovic himself got the second as he raced on to a long ball and dinked the ball over Cameron Dawson.
Castledine kept up his fine scoring run, with five in six, when he glanced in Gooch’s cross before the break.
Huddersfield coasted through the second half and could have added their tally had Dawson not got in the way of shots from Radulovic and Dion Charles.
Rotherham got a consolation goal in added time when substitute Sam Nombe latched on to a loose ball and curled in.
Rotherham manager Matt Hamshaw took the blame for the loss.
His team are now just a point above the drop zone in the compacted table after going six games without victory.
He said: “We have handed Huddersfield the game. There’s no two ways about that. That is what narks me.
“The goals aren’t even schoolboy goals. Sometimes you can’t legislate for that. I have spoken a lot about our DNA and what I expect but that is on me.
“We know what we are capable of doing and we fell way below that standard.
“Fundamentally it falls on me as the manager. I know what’s needed and what we are going to have to get better at.
“I am determined and we move on.”
