Josh Gordon bags brace to earn Barrow point at Gillingham

Striker Josh Gordon’s brilliant brace secured a point for managerless Barrow after a battling 2-2 draw at Gillingham.

Aaron Rowe’s first goal since May, following Jack Earing’s unfortunate own goal, looked to have handed the Gills their first win five matches.

But Gordon had different ideas and his second-half double turned an entertaining contest on its head at the Priestfield Stadium.

Earing diverted Elliott Nevitt’s cutback into his own net to gift the hosts a 25th-minute lead.

Rowe’s first goal since May, when he scored in the final game of last season, saw Gareth Ainworth’s team double their advantage three minutes later.

At that stage, the Gills were on course for their first home win in the league since September 13 when they beat Notts County.

But Barrow, who sacked manager Andy Whing in midweek after a run of six games without victory and no home league win since September, bravely battled back thanks to Gordon’s goals.

The Walsall loanee pulled a goal back in the 57th minute with a clinical header and then levelled matters with seven minutes remaining with a sweet right-footed strike.
