Spirited strugglers Shrewsbury fought back to claim a point in a 1-1 draw at League Two leaders Walsall.
On-loan Charlton striker Daniel Kanu scored for the fifth game running to give Walsall an early lead but Tom Anderson’s deflected equaliser earned Town a third successive draw.
Walsall led inside three minutes as Kanu brilliantly turned his marker 25 yards out and unleashed a thunderbolt that flew past Will Brook in off the bar.
It should have been 2-0 three minutes later as Kanu missed a far easier chance, steering weakly straight at Brook after bringing down Aden Flint’s header.
Walsall full-back Connor Barrett swept a decent chance over as the hosts dominated the first half but it was a different matter after the break.
Saddlers keeper Myles Roberts made a superb full-length save to foil Anthony Scully but was helpless to stop Anderson’s deflected 20-yarder bringing Town level after 65 minutes.
Walsall almost won it as Courtney Clarke’s curler clipped the crossbar but their cushion at the top was cut to two points as Shrewsbury, now two points above the bottom two, held out.
