Notts County clinch third straight win at expense of faltering Grimsby

Notts County made it three wins on the bounce by beating Grimsby 2-0 in a close battle at Blundell Park.

A bit of individual brilliance from forward Matthew Dennis put the visitors in front in the second half before Alassana Jatta sealed the points in stoppage time as the hosts’ winless league run was extended to seven matches.

The Magpies went close early on when Nick Tsaroulla’s floated cross went over goalkeeper Christy Pym and almost in if not for a headed intervention on the line.

County keeper Kelle Roos made smart stops to deny Reece Staunton and Jaze Kabia in the first half in what was an end-to-end contest.

It was the visitors who got themselves in front in the 58th minute through Dennis, who curled the ball in with pinpoint accuracy from outside the box into the bottom-right corner of Pym’s net.

Jatta then pressured Doug Tharme in possession at the back and his pass to his goalkeeper was short, allowing the forward to steal in and seal the win.
