Plymouth won for only the sixth time in Sky Bet League One this season as they defeated Wycombe 1-0 at Adams Park.
Owen Oseni scored the only goal of the game just after the hour mark, but Argyle remain in the relegation zone despite victory.
The Chairboys bossed the ball in the first half, but struggled to register a shot on target from their six attempts.
Cauley Woodrow, Jack Grimmer and Luke Leahy had a shot each in the same passage of play, with all the efforts being heroically blocked by a stubborn backline.
A corner from Leahy nearly caught Conor Hazard off guard, but the goalkeeper was on hand to parry the set-piece away, while Connor Taylor headed wide from a Sam Bell cross.
Bell also went close as his lob from a fantastic cross by Grimmer skimmed the top of the Plymouth goal.
For Argyle, who had only won nine of their 24 games in all competitions, they had the best chances of the contest as Owen Dale forced Will Norris into a smart save just before the break.
Wanderers continued to go forward as Junior Quitirna went close, but the game was settled after 61 minutes when Oseni won a 50-50 with Norris before rounding the goalkeeper and tapping home.
