Three red cards as Shrewsbury edge out Sutton in extra-time

Shrewsbury sneaked into the third round of the FA Cup as Ismeal Kabia’s stoppage-time equaliser set up a 2-1 extra-time victory over non-league Sutton in a game which featured three red cards.

Shrewsbury goalkeeper Will Brook made a great save to prevent Sam Clucas heading into his own net, while Sutton’s Jayden Harris hit the bar from 15 yards.

Early in the second second Will Boyle’s lob bounced off the Sutton bar, before at the other end Lewis Simper became the second visiting player to hit the woodwork.

Sutton broke through with 20 minutes left when a Kai Jennings corner went straight into the net and their hopes were raised further when Josh Ruffels was sent off for a second yellow card.

Kabia, who had been denied by Jack Sims, levelled in stoppage time when his strike left the keeper helpless.

Sutton then went down to 10 when David Ogbonna received a second yellow card for blocking a free-kick in added time.

Substitute John Marquis scored the winner when he rolled the ball into an empty net early in extra-time.

Sutton were then reduced to nine men when Junior Eccleston was sent off for a clash with Chuks Aneke.
