Stevenage slip to second after draw with Wigan

Stevenage slipped from top spot to second place in Sky Bet League One after being held to a goalless draw at lowly Wigan.

Wigan took the game to their high-flying opponents from the off and, after Stevenage couldn’t clear a cross, Dara Costelloe’s shot was blocked before Jensen Weir’s sliced effort flew just past the post.

At the other end, a mistake from Morgan Fox allowed Jamie Reid a sight of goal, but Sam Tickle was off his line in a flash to make a superb block.

Tickle was required again shortly after as a Stevenage cross from the left was headed goalwards by Gassan Ahadme, only for the Wigan goalkeeper to help it round for a corner.

Wigan thought they should have had a penalty just before half-time when Callum Wright appeared to be hauled back by Dan Sweeney, but referee Ross Joyce allowed play to continue.

The Latics created two openings in the final quarter, but Fraser Murray and substitute Harrison Bettoni were unable to direct headed chances on target.
