Rochdale bounced back from their midweek drubbing by York to claim a hard-fought 1-0 National League home victory over lowly Aldershot to move up to second.
Harvey Gilmour’s second-half strike – his first since Boxing Day – was enough to condemn the Shots to a sixth-successive defeat.
Skipper Ethan Ebanks-Landell and top scorer Emmanuel Dieseruvwe had efforts saved by Shots goalkeeper Pat Nash, while Ryan Hill’s curler was comfortably kept out by Oliver Whatmuff at the other end.
But Gilmour broke the deadlock in the 65th minute after being set up by Tobi Adebayo-Rowling as Aldershot dropped into the bottom four after extending their winless league run to nine games.
