Karl Burke is harbouring Classic aspirations with Evolutionist after her huge run to finish third in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket.
Having not been disgraced in the Debutante Stakes when third in her first taste of Group action in August, she was pitched into even deeper waters for her final start of the season, acquitting herself well when beaten just over four lengths by impressive winner Precise.
The Spigot Lodge handler is already planning for next season, when she could be given the chance to emulate the likes of Fallen Angel and Laurens in some of 2026’s biggest races.
Burke said: “I was delighted as she was first in the stalls and she’s not a bad filly, but she does have that streak in her and doesn’t wear hind shoes as the farriers can’t get near her hind legs.
“She ended up in the stalls a long time and just missed the beat and I think we might have been second if we had jumped out cleanly.
“She is very much a filly for next year, she’s a big filly who is getting stronger every time. She’s a Guineas filly but it’s a question of which one. I don’t think she’s a filly for Newmarket and Clifford (Lee) felt she was rolling around a bit on the ground and undulations.
“She is in the Irish Guineas though and I think the Irish Guineas will suit her well. After that something like the Prix de Diane and going 10 furlongs might be great for her as well and she’s an exciting filly.”
