Wigan were convincing 3-0 winners over early League One high-flyers Doncaster at the Brick Community Stadium.
Rovers goalkeeper Thimothee Lo-Tutala was unable to deal with an 11th-minute corner from Joseph Hungbo and Dara Costelloe bundled the ball home from a yard to open the scoring.
Three minutes later, with Doncaster again failing to clear their lines from a set-piece, Matt Smith was on hand to slot the ball into the back of the net.
Only a superb save from Lo-Tutala prevented Smith from adding a quickfire third goal, before Wigan assistant boss Glenn Whelan was given a yellow card by the official.
Rovers managed to get through to half-time as Lo-Tutala tipped a Morgan Fox header over the top.
And the visitors almost pulled one back shortly after the restart when Glenn Middleton’s corner was nodded just wide by Billy Sharp.
However, any hopes of a Doncaster revival were nipped in the bud when Fraser Murray added Wigan’s third goal in the 50th minute from the edge of the penalty area.
Costelloe and Ryan Trevitt came close to adding further Wigan goals, with Doncaster hitting a post at the other end after a back-peddling Sam Tickle tipped the ball against his right-hand upright.
