Cameron McGeehan’s late winner earned Northampton their third League One victory in a row as they beat struggling Blackpool 1-0.
An even contest at Sixfields appeared to be heading for stalemate before McGeehan popped up eight minutes from time to snatch all three points.
All of the early threat came from Northampton and Tyrese Fornah in particular as his deflected shot was well saved by goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell inside three minutes before he dragged wide of the far post.
Blackpool responded and Cobblers keeper Lee Burge stood stall to block from Danny Imray but the bright start to the contest fizzled out and goalmouth action dried up before the break.
The visitors went close at the start of the second half when Niall Ennis flicked wide of the near post before the same man was denied by Burge.
Blackpool were in the ascendency and Burge also had to bat away Jordan Brown’s long-range drive but Northampton rode the storm before striking the decisive blow.
It was a composed finish by McGeehan, who found the bottom corner from Nesta Guinness-Walker’s pass, and that proved enough to win it with Ashley Fletcher missing a late chance to equalise.
