Isaac Sinclair’s goal proves decisive as Accrington climb off the bottom

Isaac Sinclair’s first professional goal gave Accrington their first win of the season, 1-0 over Colchester in Sky Bet League Two.

Sinclair, signed from non-league in the summer, struck in the 32nd minute when he got on the end of Charlie Brown’s pass and raced forward before slotting home.

Stanley moved off the bottom of the table with the three points, while Colchester ended the game with 10 men following the 86th-minute dismissal of Owura Edwards.

Visiting goalkeeper Matt Macey kept out a Brown strike in the second minute and Isaac Heath caused problems.

The on-loan Everton winger ran from his own half in the 23rd minute, weaving past the defence before seeing a strike tipped over the bar by Macey.

Stanley made the decisive breakthrough while Colchester, who lost Macey to injury in the aftermath of the goal, only created one real first half chance – Kyreece Lisbie firing over in a good position in added time.

The visitors, with just one league win themselves so far this season, improved after the break without creating too many chances, with Jack Tucker’s effort which went over the bar their best effort.

A bad day for Danny Cowley’s team was capped when winger Edwards was shown a red card for a high challenge on Stanley goalkeeper Ollie Wright.
