Revival Power-ed up for Flying Childers challenge

Revival Power-ed up for Flying Childers challenge

Yorkshire handler Tim Easterby holds a strong hand in the Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes, as he seeks what would be a popular local success with Revival Power and Argentine Tango.

The latter has been a model of consistency this term and drops back to the minimum distance here, but it is Revival Power – a sister to Easterby’s Nunthorpe heroine Winter Power – that carries the main hopes of the Habton Grange operation, having followed in the footsteps of her sibling by winning on the Knavesmire last time out.

The Listed winner now steps into even deeper waters, with Alastair Donald, racing manager for owners King Power Racing, saying: “We think she has enormous potential, which excites us, and I think it was an amazing performance to go that quick at York, then go again to win.

“We’re excited by her and we think she’s in the class of her sister and is almost a bigger, stronger version of her.

“The question is going to be the potential of soft ground, but looking at her action we think there is a decent chance she will handle it so we have high hopes for her and it looks a pretty open race.”

It was Charlie Appleby’s Military Code who was a head adrift of Revival Power at York in the Julia Graves Roses Stakes and is in opposition once again, as is Kevin Ryan’s Dickensian who was third on that occasion.

There is also a strong Irish challenge featuring Aidan O’Brien’s pair of Mission Central and Kansas, with Ger Lyons’ Lady Iman returning to her own age group having ambitiously tackled the Nunthorpe last month.

Eve Johnson Houghton is also double-handed, with Havana Hurricane dropping back to his Royal Ascot-winning distance after placing in the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood and joined in the line-up by St Hugh’s Stakes runner-up Palmeira.

Johnson Houghton said: “I think both of them have a chance, we’re hoping to pick up some black type with Palmeira but I do think Havana Hurricane has a great chance of winning a Group race there.

“I’m happy dropping back in trip with him and do think he’s a better horse at five furlongs. He goes there in great form.”

In the Listed Betfred Flying Scotsman Stakes it is Godolphin who look to hold all the aces, with Appleby and William Buick teaming up with wide-margin Yarmouth winner Catullus. The white cap will be worn by Ray Dawson aboard Roger Varian’s track-and-trip winner Avicenna, who created a deep impression at the finish of his Town Moor debut.

Others of note among the 10-strong field include O’Brien’s Convivial Stakes winner Frescobaldi, Karl Burke’s York novice scorer Hankelow and Ed Walker’s pair of the consistent Do Or Do Not and Deauville debut winner Northern Champion.
