Bin Suroor has French plan on the radar for Dubai Future

Saeed bin Suroor is basking in the glory of winning the Dubai Gold Cup with Dubai Future at Meydan on Saturday and a trip to France is now on his agenda.

The nine-year-old was off from December 2023 until February and was making his debut over two miles, but under Silvestre de Sousa he sprinted away from dual Prix Royal-Oak winner Double Major.

“He is a horse who missed two years, but he has come back well and since we arrived in Dubai he has done really well,” said Bin Suroor.

“He won really well in the Nad Al Sheba Trophy and he was only 85 per cent there. I told the jockey to drop him out as it was a new trip.

“He’s by Dubawi and usually they show plenty of speed so it’s unusual for one to stay two miles. It was amazing how he won.

“I think we will stay at two miles, his next option is a Group One in France next month (Prix Vicomtesse-Vigier) over a mile and seven furlongs at Longchamp.”

Dubai Future is a former Royal Ascot winner – taking the 10-furlong Wolferton Stakes in 2022 – and could head back to the big meeting should all go well.

Bin Suroor added: “Maybe, if he’s healthy, I might try him in the Gold Cup because he has a turn of foot.”
