Dan Udoh on target as promotion-chasing Wycombe see off struggling Burton

Dan Udoh’s opener and a calamitous own goal from Jack Armer handed high-flying Wycombe all three points as they defeated League One strugglers Burton 2-0 at Adams Park.

The away side started the better as JJ McKiernan’s close-range but unmarked header was blocked, while Charlie Webster’s long-range strike was saved by Will Norris.

This was as good as it got for the Brewers in the opening 45 minutes as the Chairboys began to take control.

Luke Leahy and Cameron Humphreys were pulling the strings in the centre of the park as their through balls found Udoh and Richard Kone.

Both were thwarted by a stubborn Burton backline, but a terrific strike by Udoh after 15 minutes gave Wanderers the lead.

He was assisted by his strike partner, with the Nigerian arrowing his shot from 14 yards beyond Max Crocombe for his eighth goal of the season.

The second period saw Wycombe continue to dominate the ball as Crocombe denied Kone, but a moment of madness sealed Mike Dodds’ side all three points.

On the hour mark, miscommunication between Crocombe and Armer saw the latter place the ball beyond his own goalkeeper in comical fashion.

Jack Grimmer hit the post, while Norris brilliantly denied McKiernan’s long-range attempt.

The result sees Wycombe remain second -nine points behind leaders Birmingham – as Burton remain in the relegation zone.
