Reading hit back to clinch late win at Wigan

Reading scored twice in the last 20 minutes as they came from 1-0 down to win 2-1 at Wigan in League One.

The first half was almost all Reading, with Lewis Wing seeing a free-kick from 25 yards touched round a post by Sam Tickle, who made a stupendous save moments later to deny Andre Garcia at point-blank range.

Even Tickle was helpless the next time Reading had a sight of his goal as Harvey Knibbs’ shot took a massive deflection off Jason Kerr, completely wrongfooting the goalkeeper, only to land on the roof of the net.

Tickle then denied Tyler Bindon before Wigan almost took the lead just before the break when Jonny Smith’s shot was superbly kept out by Joel Pereira

Smith was involved when Wigan took the lead on the hour mark, his lofted corner headed in at the far post by Kerr.

However, the lead only lasted 11 minutes before Charlie Savage’s cross was tucked away by Jayden Wareham.

And the visitors grabbed the winning goal with five minutes to go when, after Tickle had somehow denied Knibbs a tap-in and Amadou Mbengue headed against the Wigan bar, the hosts could not clear a corner and Bindon netted from close range.
