Michael Mellon earns high-flying Bradford late win at Salford

Michael Mellon scored a last-gasp winner as SkyBet League Two promotion hopefuls Bradford came from behind to claim a dramatic 2-1 win at Salford.

Second-placed Bradford were a goal behind at the break thanks to Frankie Okoronkwo’s opener for Salford, but Bradley Halliday levelled to set up a grandstand finish before Mellon struck the winner four minutes into added time.

The Bantams looked the more dangerous side in the early stages, with Tommy Leigh’s shot clipping the crossbar before Jamie Walker’s effort from 18 yards was tipped round a post by Jamie Jones.

However, the visitors were undone on the half-hour mark by a lifted ball from Hakeeb Adelakun to Okoronkwo, with the on-loan Everton forward firing brilliantly into the top corner.

Bradford equalised in the 71st minute when Tayo Adaramola squared the ball in from the left and Mellon flicked it on into the path of Halliday, who smashed home the equaliser.

Then, deep into stoppage time, Calum Kavanagh threaded a pass through to Mellon, who squeezed his finish past Jones to seal a third straight win for Graham Alexander’s side.
