Danny Rohl ‘more disappointed than happy’ after Wednesday draw with Millwall

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl admitted he was “more disappointed than happy” after watching his side waste a succession of first-half chances before scraping a 2-2 draw against Millwall at Hillsborough.

The Owls missed a series of golden chances to build on Yan Valery’s early opener, with Ike Ugbo missing a penalty and three home players hitting the woodwork before Millwall threatened to snatch the points with goals from George Honeyman and Ryan Wintle.

In the end it took a late leveller from teenage substitute Gabriel Otegbayo to save the Owls from defeat and Rohl conceded: “I think I’m a little bit down after the game.

“I was very happy with the offensive stuff today because we created a lot of chances against a team who are very well organised, and that is great to see.

“But then we come to the other stuff and this is of course disappointing. In the end you take the point but when you look at the full game I am more disappointed than happy. I feel there was much more in it for us today, but that’s football.”

Otegbayo’s late effort spared Wednesday’s blushes and Rohl praised the way the 19-year-old reacted to Josh Windass’ flick-on in the box to poke the 85th minute equaliser past Lions keeper Lukas Jensen.

“I’m very confident with him,” added Rohl. “When he has come in he’s done a good job, he’s stepped up and now he’s started to score. But this is a small, happy story today because the big story is the 2-2 and it hurts.”

Millwall boss Alex Neil praised his side’s second-half fightback but admitted he was left a little frustrated at not escaping Hillsborough with all three points.

Neil was taking charge of his first away game since replacing Neil Harris as Lions boss and overseeing a poor home defeat to Oxford on New Year’s Day.

Neil said: “Going in at half-time we were delighted that it was only 1-0 and we knew we had a great opportunity in the second half to go out and be better.

“All credit to the lads, they rallied, fought and scrapped and we showed quality when we needed to for the two goals. My only frustration is that we didn’t see it out from that point.

“I haven’t had one day on the pitch with the players yet in terms of a proper training session, and that’s been very difficult, but I think the result today shows the character, grit and determination in the squad.”
