David McGoldrick snatches point for Notts County with late penalty at Barrow

David McGoldrick scored a stoppage-time penalty to earn Notts County a dramatic 1-1 draw at Sky Bet League Two play-off rivals Barrow.

McGoldrick, who netted from the penalty spot in last season’s corresponding game, was fouled by Chris Stokes and stepped up to convert his spot-kick in the third minute of added time.

It was heartbreaking for the Cumbrians, who were within touching distance of a first Football League victory over the Magpies since 1966.

They led from the seventh minute with Rory Feely’s first goal of the season.

Barrow had failed to score in five of their previous six fourth-tier outings, but Feely ended the drought following Ben Jackson’s corner.

The home side continued to create opportunities, but away goalkeeper Alex Bass denied shots from Kian Spence and Ged Garner.

In contrast, Barrow keeper Wyll Stanway was forced into his first save after 41 minutes, stopping a low drive from dangerous Nick Tsaroulla.

County dominated possession in the second half and Stanway made a double save after 77 minutes to deny Josh Martin and Javani Brown.

With a first win in four games within their grasp, Barrow conceded the penalty and McGoldrick stepped up to come to the rescue.
