A goal in either half saw Mansfield cement fourth spot in Sky Bet League One with a 2-1 victory at Wigan.
After Dion Rankine had seen an early shot for Wigan saved by Cristy Pym, Mansfield took the lead just before the half-hour mark.
Baba Adeeko coughed up possession deep in the Wigan half and Will Evans fired an unstoppable strike into the top corner of Sam Tickle’s net.
Wigan were denied a penalty in first-half stoppage-time when on-loan Manchester United forward Joe Hugill appeared to be taken out off the ball as he tried to get to a Pym fumble.
But the home side were level eight minutes after the restart when Tyrese Francois’ cross was rifled home by Thelo Aasgaard.
However, parity lasted only nine minutes as Aaron Lewis’ deep free-kick was headed down by Frazer Blake-Tracy for Keanu Baccus to fire into the bottom corner.
Wigan pressed again, but substitute Michael Olakigbe could not keep his shot down and fellow replacement Matt Smith fired wide from the edge of the box.
At the other end, Lewis almost added number three only to prod the ball wide of the far post.
