MUNGRET Community College has an impressive 39-21 victory over OLSPCK of Belfast in the girl's U16A All-Ireland schools cup this morning at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.
The game took until the second-quarter to get going as both sides struggled to make shots before Mungret came out and scored 15 points ahead of the half-time break.
OLSPCK were unable to score vital points throughout the entire match and only managed seven points in total in the first-half, leaving Mungret 15-5 ahead at the break.
The second-half remained similar in terms of scoring with Mungret just doing enough in the final quarters to stay ahead of their Belfast oppenents.
OLSPCK did battle back in the final quarter, scoring their highest amount of points the entire game, but Mungret kept their lead leaving them on a winning scoreline of 39-21.
Abbey Nealon was Mungret's top scorer and MVP of the game with 13 points followed by Emer Purtill on eight points.
Speaking after the game to Basketball Ireland Mungret CC head coach Aoife Donovan said “We’re absolutely thrilled because we have three girls who couldn’t be here today and who are central to our team, so the win was as much for them as the girls who are here."
