Ben O'Riordan of Treaty United, centre, celebrates after scoring a goal with teammates during the SSE Airtricity Men's First Division match with Wexford FC at the Markets Field this month
TREATY United's hopes of making the SSE Airtricity League First Division play-off reaches a crucial stage this Friday night at the Markets Field, 7.45pm, when Athlone Town visit the Garryowen venue.
Treaty, on the back of a dramatic 2-2 draw against Bray Wanderers at the Carlisle Grounds last time out, currently sit in eighth-place in the First Division table, seven points off fifth-placed Wexford who occupy the final promotion play-off spot in the table.
Wexford also have a game in hand on Treaty United.
Tommy Barrett's Treaty side now have just five fixtures to go in their regular season, with games running out in their bid to reach the promotion play-offs for a third successive season.
Following this Friday evening's game against fourth-placed Athlone who sit 11 points ahead of the Limerick-based side in the table, Treaty then face an away date with Longford Town before two home meetings against Finn Harps and runaway leaders Galway United.
Treaty United round off their regular season away to Waterford FC at the RSC on Friday, October 20.
A goal from a last gasp 94th minute header from Mark Walsh, following Marc Ludden's free-kick, saw Tommy Barrett's Treaty side battle back to secure a deserved point away at Bray Wanderers on Friday night.
