LIMERICK'S Gandy Malou-Mamel has had an incredible few weeks after becoming the first ever Irish basketball player to sign with UCONN Huskies, one of America's most successful women's college basketball programme.
To add to this success, Gandy has now been named in the Irish women's senior squad ahead of their international friendly against Austria.
Head coach, James Weldon has announced three uncapped players, Lauryn Homan (Brunell), Annaliese Murphy (UCC Glanmire) and Limerick's Gandy Malou-Mamel.
Despite having a number of injuries Weldon is optimistic that this will give an opportunity to other players to stake their claim.
"This has created an opportunity for others to come into the panel and impress and I am eager to see what they can do against a really good Austrian side."
The Irish women's team will face Austria on Saturday, August 12 at 5:00pm in the National Basketball Arena.
