The Limerick Cricket Club U13 side that earned victory last weekend.
LIMERICK Cricket Club had a successful weekend with both adult and youth sides tasting victory. Three other games on Sunday fell foul of the wet conditions.
The first XI made a trip to the famed Mardyke to take on Cork County but it was clear from early on in the game that it was very unlikely that a result would be possible.
Cork had gotten off to a decent start and 84-2 before a run out saw Limerick back into the game. However, the rain came soon and dampened any hope of a result.
The 4th XI were the only other adult team in action over the weekend when they welcomed County Kerry to Adare on Saturday.
Limerick lost four early wickets before a resilient recovery saw them finish with a total of 160. Waqas Mehmood top scored for Limerick with 63.
A good bowling performance was needed to have any hope of a victory and it was exactly what Limerick produced. Abdul Baqi Khan got figures of 3-20, while Navroop Johnson picked up 2-14 as Limerick reduced Kerry to 138 all out.
The U13s and U15s were also in action with both sides tasting victory. The U13s were up first in Lycidan and posted a total of 80-9 off 24.2 overs. A superb bowling performance then gave Limerick an unlikely win by seven runs.
The U15s were next up and set a target of 86 after electing to bat. Galway made a solid start and were at 37-1 after just five overs but a superb effort with the ball saw them curtailed to a total of 65 all out.
This weekend, Limerick's 2nds are in action against Nenagh on Saturday in the final game of the first round of league fixtures before the split. A win would see them finish in the top half and fighting for the title.
Elsewhere, the thirds are on Sunday with a trip to Lisronagh and a game against United Cricket Clonmel. They need a win to keep a top four spot alive.
The youth sides are also out in what is a hectic Bank Holiday Weekend. The U17s will kick off the action on Friday as they welcome Cork County to Adare for a 11am start.
The U13s will play back to back games on Saturday and Sunday against County Kerry and Cork County respectively, with the U15s looking to go one better with two wins from two as they face Cork County in a 30 over game. This time in the Adare on Sunday morning.
