THE 70th Lawson Cup final is scheduled for this Friday evening when Fairview Rangers take on Aisling Annacotty in the curtain closer of what has been a most enjoyable season.
Fairview come into the tie on the back of Saturday’s disappointment at being pipped at the post by Pike Rvs in the Premier League race.
Paul Danaher has made a fine impression in his first year at the helm and a trophy in the cupboard would top off the season.
Aisling may have other ideas however, as they look to add their name to the famous old trophy for the first time.
They started the year well but a run of poor form around October and November saw them change track and start using a number of their younger players.
With such a conveyor belt of talent coming through it was a no-brainer. A Lawson Cup win would be huge for the club.
The sides met three times in the League and it’s honours even with a win each and one draw. Fairview won 3-0 when the sides met in the FAI Junior Cup.
There are some intriguing battles in store. The Fairview front runners on their day are a class outfit. Irish star Conor Coughlan along with Conor Ellis and the silken skilled Darragh Rainsford will prove a handful for any defence.
They face Richkov Boevi, only a year out of youth football but earning a growing reputation.
Likewise at the other end of the park Joel Coustrain and Adam Foley will lead the charge for Aisling facing Wayne Colbert and Jason Cross.
The midfield battle pits Shane Duggan and Steven Bradley against the in-form Tony Whitehead and Tom Kidd.
Fairview will carry the unenviable favourites tag into the tie but they will also know not to fall into that trap.
Patrons should note that the game has a kick off time of 6.45pm.
