Limerick Cricket Club on form with three victories from packed weekend action

The Limerick Cricket Club junior team that earned a win last weekend.

It was a successful weekend for all the Limerick Cricket Club teams last weekend with the firsts, seconds and fourth XIs earning wins.

The firsts were able to win their opening fixture of the Arachas National Cup in their re-fixture at the Manor Fields in Adare.

Limerick began the encounter in the field and restricted Galway to 156 in 36 overs. Mirhamza Ahmedzai impressed with figures of 3-39.

Despite a few wickets being lost relatively cheaply, Limerick ran out victors by four wickets with Tim Smithies scoring a half century of runs

The seconds secured top spot in their T20 group with a 24 run win over County Kerry at Ballyeighan. Having already secured qualification for the knockout stages, Limerick scored 144 from their 20 overs with Karthik Karur top scoring with 47 runs.

A tight bowling/fielding performance ensured Kerry were restricted to 120 from their reply and a win for the second XI.

The fourth XI faced a must-win game against United Cricket Clonmel in their T20 game in Adare and they looked in deep trouble having only posted 120. However, with Siva Gujjula picking up figures of 4-17, Limerick incredibly earned a win by two runs.

They then took on County Kerry following that win and earned a second of the day with 78 from the bat of Christian Matthew helping them to a 35 run victory.

This weekend sees the second and fourth XIs competing in their respective T20 divisional competitions. The second XI plays Midleton in the semi-final on Bank Holiday Monday, while the fourth XI hit Clonmel for their finals day with a game against Lismore first up.

The main event of the weekend will take place on Sunday as Limerick look to avenge last year’s loss to Cregagh as they once again go head to head with the Belfast outfit at the Manor Fields with an expected start time of 1pm. A win would see Limerick progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
