Limerick's Sarah Lavin after competing in the women's 60m hurdles final at the European Indoor Athletics Championships at Ataköy Athletics Arena in Istanbul on Sunday evening
LIMERICK sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin claimed a sixth place finish in the final of the 60m hurdles at the European Indoor Athletics Championship in Turkey on Sunday evening.
Twenty eight-year-old Lavin, from Lisnagry, clocked a time of 8.03 after a slow start in the final in Istanbul. The European title was won by Finland's Reetta Hurske who clocked a national record of 7.79.
Physiotherapist Lavin has enjoyed a hugely consistent indoors season and proved herself to a classy championship performer in Istanbul this weekend to progress through her first round heat and semi-final in order to make it through to the final.
Lavin recovered superbly after a slow start to finish third in her semi-final on Sunday morning in a time of 7.99 to reach Sunday evening's final.
Emerald AC athlete Lavin, who is coached by Noelle Morrissey, is no stranger to major athletics finals after qualifying for the 100m hurdles final at the European Athletics Championships in Munich last August and the World Indoor Championships 60m hurdles final in Belgrade last March.
