Re:Story is a new addition to the Milk Market and sells a variety of locally crafted goods
IN 2022, The Milk Market celebrated 170 years in business. Like a beating heart, its gates have opened each and every weekend for people to gather and celebrate the produce of land and hand. Built against the ancient walls of Irish Town, the Market sits upon a threshold between the city’s past and present.
The Milk Market has witnessed the growth and development of our city and its rapidly changing landscape since reopening in 1852 after the famine.
In uncertain times, places like the Milk Market can offer reassurance and reacquaint shoppers, or visitors alike, to the pulsing spirit of Limerick and its wonderful people.
Re:Story is a new addition to the Milk Market and sells a variety of locally crafted goods.
As a local history enthusiast, I consider myself incredibly lucky to work on such hallowed ground and have made it my business to promote local people and the story of their craft.
Most of us have a sweet tooth and Georgia’s gorgeous chocolates make a great pairing with Eamon’s artful Grá cards. Whether it’s a sheepskin rug by Irish Hide Designs, in Limerick since 1810, or a crochet teddy bear made by Tania (pictured, above), in Limerick since the War in Ukraine, Re:Story is offering products that remind us of home as somewhere we can feel that we all belong to.
One of my favourite products in the shop are the Lough Gur Sun Shields (pictured below) which can be worn as a brooch or necklace pendant.
The original was made by the Lough Gur people over 3,000 years ago and is one of the most beautiful examples of Bronze Age Design found anywhere in Europe. Wearing this ancient artefact and telling its story is a great way to share our love of place.
As March rolls on, The Milk Market’s story continues and we look forward to the first Antique Fair of the year on Sunday, March, 12.
Friday’s lunchtime Comhrá in Green Acres café will celebrate its 10 year anniversary ag caint Gaeilge, as part of the Seachtaine na Gaeilge this Friday, March 3.
