ST MUNCHIN'S College bowed out of the Munster Schools Boys Junior Cup at the semi-final stage following a 17-3 loss to CBC, of Cork, at Thomond Park this Wednesday afternoon.

The Corbally school, who had beaten PBC, of Cork, impressively in their previous outing, were well beaten on this occasion against a heroic effort by a Christians outfit that landed three tries.

CBC were dominant throughout the game from a territory and possession point of view but were met by a superb Munchin’s defensive effort.

St Munchin’s bravely held out several times in the opening half hour, but the pressure eventually told with a bit of misfortune costing them dearly just before half time.

CBC out half Harry Quinlan was wide with his penalty attempt but the clearing Munchin’s kick was mis-directed and collected from an offside position.

Christians took a quick tap penalty and their captain Louis Carroll stretched to score in the left corner.

To their credit, resilient St Munchin’s responded immediately with a Donnachca McNamara penalty that left the half time score at 5-3 in CBC’s favour.

It was a one-sided second half with CBC taking only two minutes to score their second try. This time it was full back Hugo Downey that cruised through the defence. Quinlan added the extras to put CBC nine points to the good.

Carroll then went in for the Cork side's third try on 40 minutes after he found a rare gap in the Munchin’s defence and ran in from all of 30 metres for the game-clinching score.
