The Republic of Ireland Schools squad which defeated the Australian Schools side at Home Farm FC on Saturday last
A LIMERICK student was a key member of the Republic of Ireland Schools squad which came from behind to claim a hard-fought victory over a talented Australian side in Home Farm FC on Saturday afternoon last.
Jayden O’Donovan, a St Clement’s College student, was part of the squad named by Head Coach Derek O’Brien (Ardscoil na Mara, Tramore) to face the Socceroos’.
It was a scoreless opening 45 minutes with Australia enjoying the better possession during this period.
The visitors missed a penalty five minutes from the break with Coola Post Primary School star Kyle Gabbidon getting down well to deny Hamza Bangash’s strike from the spot.
Harrison Farrow gave Australia the lead eight minutes into the restart with an impressive goal. However, their lead was short lived as Callum Lynch had the sides level two minutes later with a rocket of a free kick.
Further goals from Sligo starlet Lynch once again on 68 minutes and Jack Sweeney with 13 minutes remaining sealed Rep of Ireland's win.
