SIXTH class pupils in St Paul’s NS could give us all a lesson in kindness, compassion and community spirit.

The boys and girls in teacher Sarah Keane’s class in the Dooradoyle school in Limerick city have raised an incredible €15,500 for Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, the national children’s cancer charity.

The fundraising campaign began after one of the pupils in the class was diagnosed with cancer. The children wanted to do something meaningful to support their classmate and other children facing similar challenges. The pupils organised a special raffle with the support of their school community.

The pupils’ efforts received an overwhelming response from parents, families, local businesses and the wider community. A major boost came from Keating’s CarePlus Pharmacy, which pledged to match every euro raised up to €2,500.

The class extends a heartfelt thank you to everyone who donated, purchased raffle tickets or supported the fundraiser in any way. Special thanks are due to the many local businesses that generously donated prizes and helped make the raffle such a success.

Before the summer break, the school welcomed Jimmy Norman, founder of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, to receive the donation of €15,500. The charity provides vital practical and financial assistance to families of children undergoing cancer treatment across Ireland.

Ms Keane said the pupils showed tremendous empathy and determination throughout the campaign, motivated by a desire to support their friend and other children battling cancer. The teacher expressed her immense pride in their efforts and thanked the entire school community.

“The remarkable achievement is a testament to what can be accomplished when young people, families, and local businesses come together with kindness, generosity and a shared purpose,” said Ms Keane.
