A new clinic has been set up in Dooradoyle, Limerick, to encourage new and existing donors to donate blood to the Irish Blood Transfusion Service

THE IRISH Blood Transfusion Service (IBTS) are asking Limerick people to donate blood, as donations decline during the heatwave.

To help make donating more accessible, the IBTS is also launching its first-ever blood donation clinic at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, opposite the Crescent Shopping Centre.

Despite the summer holiday season, the need for blood remains constant. Every day, patients undergoing cancer treatment, people involved in serious accidents, those requiring emergency or planned surgery, and mothers experiencing complications during childbirth depend on blood donated by volunteers.

Alex O'Connor of the IBTS said: "We're asking our loyal donors to return to donate and encouraging anyone who has ever thought about giving blood to make this the time they do it. Just one donation can help save and improve the lives of several patients."

The donation process takes around one hour, but the impact can last a lifetime.

People can donate blood in the Castletroy Park Hotel on Monday, July 20, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on July 21 and 22 and in the Radisson Hotel on Ennis Road on July 23. All clinics take place between 4.20pm and 7.40pm.

New donors are especially welcome at all clinics and appointments can be made by calling 1800 222 111.
