YOUNG MUNSTER return to action this Saturday when taking on Terenure College in the prestigious Bateman Cup final at Lakelands in Dublin, 2.30pm.

Munsters' booked their second Energia Bateman Cup final appearance in three seasons after beating Ballynahinch 17-14 at a rain sodden Ballymacarn Park in their semi-final fixture last September.

Hooker Chris Moore’s 72nd-minute maul try sent the 2022 runners-up through to January’s decider.

Young full-back Cian Casey contributed an important seven points from the tee – including two kicks from out wide.
Saturday's opponents Terenure College, who are the Bateman Cup holders, defeated Connacht representatives Sligo 33-15 in their Bateman Cup semi-final which was also played last September.

Young Munster currently sit in sixth place in the All-Ireland League Division 1A table with five wins from their opening nine league games. Terenure are fourth in the table, five points ahead of Munsters'.

After a slow start to the AIL season, Munsters' form has improved steadily in Division 1A. The Clifford Park side has won each of their last four league fixtures, including securing a hard fought 13-6 victory over Terenure College at Greenfields in November.

Last time out, Munsters' produced a storming come back to edge past great rivals Cork Constitution 22-21 at Greenfields in the middle of last month.

The Bateman Cup was presented to the IRFU by Dr. Godfrey Bateman, a member of a well-known west Cork family, in memory of his sons Reginald and Arthur who were killed during the First World War.

Reginald and Arthur were both keen rugby players and both featured in a newspaper record of a Trinity First Year Medicals ‘A’ team against a Wanderers 3rd ‘B’ team in November 1910 at Lansdowne Road.

The competition was played annually between the four provincial cup winners on the last weekend of the season.
Young Munster scored a famous Bateman Cup final success in 1928 defeating Lansdowne 6-3 in the final.
