MUNSTER Rugby’s new signing, Seán O’Brien has been settling in to life well in the Treaty county.
Speaking at his first press conference with his new club, O’Brien said he “always kept an eye on how Munster were doing.”
“The club plays a lovely style of rugby and I was excited to get stuck in and get down here.”
Originally from Westmeath, O’Brien began his playing career with the midlands regional team before moving on to Leinster youths and progressing through the underage ranks up until under 20’s.
He then joined the Connacht academy ahead of the 2021-21 season before making his debut in the Pro14 fixture against Ulster.
Playing at centre, Seán quickly progressed and was signed to English Premiership side Exeter Chiefs, which gave his career the extra boost.
Speaking at his first press conference with new club Munster, O’Brien stated that starting for the Chiefs in knock-out Champions Cup games was “amazing”.
“We played Montpellier, DHL Stormers and La Rochelle. When you are out on the pitch you are thinking they are humans as well and they go through the same thing as you. The experience playing against athletes of such calibre was unbelievable.”
O’Brien could potentially match up with New-Zealander Alex Nankivell to form a new midfield partnership for Munster Rugby ahead of the 2023-24 season.
