AN APPLICATION to add a four-storey extension to expand Kilmurry Lodge has been put forward for council consideration.
The Kilmurry Lodge Hotel are applying for planning permission for a four-storey building with 57 bedroom studios and suites, as well as 31 new car parking spaces.
The hotel, located on the Dublin Road, Castletroy, was founded in 1995 and built on the family farm.
It started out with 30 bedrooms, which has now grown to 109. The hotel is owned by Pat Hoare.
Now housing an underground live entertainment venue called CASK, formerly The Lodge nightclub, the venue is popular with University of Limerick students.
It is also home to Nelligan’s Bar and Restaurant and private function rooms, a fitness studio gym, and 11 self-catering apartments.

The newly-proposed development on the existing site includes a four-storey building over a semi-basement with 57 bedroom studios and suites and a reception area at ground floor level.
Laundry and kitchenette facilities on each level are also proposed, as well as a lower basement plant area and service zone with staff changing facilities.
Additionally, there are plans for outdoor developments put forward, which include new external open covered connections to the existing hotel, 31 car parking spaces and eight changes to the internal roadway.
The re-alignment of existing car parking, new hard and soft landscaping, the provision of foul and surface water drainage, a rain garden, and all other ancillary works as required are proposed, too.
The planning application may be inspected or purchased at the Limerick City and County Council Offices, located on the Dooradoyle Road.
