A TOP Limerick local authority official is set to become chief executive of Clare County Council.
Gordon Daly (pictured) is expected to cross the border back into his home county, where he will succeed another former Limerick council boss, Pat Dowling, in the role.
Mr Daly is effectively the third-in-command at Limerick City and County Council.
His role as deputy director general puts only the director general Dr Pat Daly and Mayor John Moran above him.
A native of Tuamgraney near Scariff in east Clare, Mr Daly has had more than 25 years of experience in Irish local government.
As well as being deputy director general, he is also the director of corporate services, human resources and organisational development on Limerick’s local authority.
He has worked for Limerick City and County Council since 2015.

In that time, he has been involved in the opening of the 40km Limerick Greenway which has received more than one-and-a-half million visitors since 2021.
He has also played a big role in getting a €5m athletics hub opened in Newcastle West.
Economic, tourism, community and rural development have all come under his auspices in Limerick.
And he was also among those leading preparations for the 2027 Ryder Cup, which is taking place in Adare.
His late father Peadar is a native of Ballingarry.
