‘Our hearts are broken’: Limerick mum-of-three who died in tragic accident fondly remembered

There is a ‘numbness’ across west Limerick following the sudden passing of Elizabeth (Liz) Lynch from Kilmeedy
A DARK cloud remains over west Limerick following the passing of a loving mother, a beautiful person and the “very definition of a community person”.
Elizabeth (Liz) Lynch, aged 44, tragically died after a septic tank trench collapsed in Kilmeedy on Friday afternoon. She was immediately rescued from the trench but was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It is understood that Ms Lynch was assisting with the construction of a house at the time. In a double tragedy, it is the same property that her brother Timothy Lynch Jnr was working on when he also passed away suddenly last November.
A number of sporting fixtures have been postponed in west Limerick this weekend due to the popularity of the woman.
Countless tributes have been paid to the mum-of-three young boys from Feenagh with one mourner saying on social media, “Our hearts are broken”.
Minister of State Niall Collins said there is a “numbness” across West Limerick following the passing of Ms Lynch.
“It is just such an awful tragedy - and less than a year after her brother passed away - that it has stopped everybody in their tracks. Everybody’s thoughts are with her family and especially her three young boys.
“Liz was the very definition of a community person and her loss will be keenly felt by so many in the days, months and years ahead. I know the local communities will rally around and support the family in any way they can just like Liz did for others. May she rest in peace,” said Mr Collins.
Newcastle West Town FC, in a post on their Facebook page, said they are shocked and saddened at the sudden passing Ms Lynch, who was one of their coaches.
“Liz started coaching with us back in 2020, coached numerous age groups and was influential in developing our female age groups in particular. Up to last season, Liz coached the U16 and U19 girls teams.
“Liz's beautiful, kind and vibrant personality always shone through wherever she was based in the club, be it training, a match or volunteering,” reads the post.
The club’s deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to her three beloved sons, Kauan, Jaycob, Victor, parents Tim and Betty, sister Mary, brother Michael Snr and all her family and friends at this immensely sad time.
“Liz's presence and dedication within the Club will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. Rest in heavenly peace, Liz,” concludes the post.
Kilmeedy Social Farm said their thoughts and prayers are with the Brennan and Lynch families at this incredibly heartbreaking time, on their Facebook page.
“We are thinking of you all and, most especially, of Liz’s three beautiful boys. We will always remember Liz as the lovely, kind and wonderful person she was, and she will remain very much in our thoughts and hearts.
“Sending you all our love, strength and deepest condolences,” they wrote.
The social farm took the decision to postpone a fundraiser this Sunday for St Ita’s Community Hospital in memory of Sarah Gilbourne.
Feohanagh/Castlemahon Ladies Football Club said they were devastated to hear of their former player’s sudden passing.
“Liz and her sister Mary, played for our Intermediate team that won our first Intermediate County Final title in 2015, progressing onto a Munster quarter and semi-final. Liz's extensive experience as a goalie was instrumental to the team's success.
“They also took part in the LIDL TV ad filmed in Wicklow in 2016, a great bonding weekend for the team and coaches, lots of fun and cherished memories made together.”

A post on their Facebook pages said that Ms Lynch (pictured above) was a cool and calm anchor in goals, and a genuine, good, kind, friendly person with a great sense of humour.
“Our club is extremely proud of her contribution and lucky to have had her play over those years.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all Liz's family. Her sister Mary and her sons Kauan, Jaycob and Victor, who were at every training session and match, always by her side. To her dear friends and team mates in several clubs she played with and helped coach, we are with you all in grief.
“Rest easy, Liz, our friend, you left such a positive, beautiful impression on us all, thank you.”
No funeral arrangements have been announced at this time.
