Tom Walsh Memorial 10K
THE Tom Walsh 10K has become one of the most popular events in Munster at this time of year and this the 14th edition, was sold out.
Amongst the 500 athletes who assembled in Caherconlish were some of the best road runners from Munster and beyond. Conditions were wet but mild.
As for the action Wexford native Ger Forde, running for Kilkenny City Harriers took victory in a time of 30:57. National Half Marathon Champion Jake O’Regan, of St Johns AC, was second in 31:09 with Brendan Neary, of Moycarkey Coolcroo AC, completing the podium third in 31:43.
Niall Shanahan, of An Bru, was first Limerick man home in fourth in 32:10 with veteran Niall O’Callaghan, of West Limerick, fifth and first O40 male in 33:51.
West Limerick ACs Niall O’Riordan was seventh in 34:33, M50 Seamus Sommers 33:57. The ever-consistent Karl Lenihan crossed the line in 35:42, Kieran O’Brien (Dooneen) 35:44, M60 Willie O’Donoghue (Moreabbey Milers) 40:45, M70 Tom Madden (Limerick Country Club) 48:33
In the Women’s race Dee Collins of Ennis Track, an Irish ‘Masters’ International was victor in 35:26 with Sharon Rynn, of Leevale AC, second in 37:35.
Shona Keane, of Dooneen, took the third place and was of course first Limerick woman home in 37:46. In fourth place was Grace Fitzgerald 39:17, with Grainne Kennedy fifth in 39:36.
Dooneen’s Clare Coleman was first O40 Female in 39:52 with clubmate Anne MacPhail best O50 woman in 43:41, in second place was Roisin Doran 45:12, F60 Liz Leonard (Kilmallock) 52:08, second Clare Knight 52:52, with F70 Mary Hinchy.
Other times of note included Dooneen ACs J.P. Lawlor in 38:05. Clubmate Ian Jennings annexed a PB time of 39:28, with Lar Clearly home in 43:22. The Kilmallock duo of Donie Dwane and Niall Lynch were home in 44:25 and 46:23 respectively. Kate Murrary (43:33) and Tara Carr (53:33) ran well for West Limerick, with Alex Kelly breaking 40 minutes for Back to Boston (39:37). Sharon Goldsmith finished in 53:12 and was third F60 for the Country Club.
Well done Derek, Yvonne and all involved who helped again to make the event a great success.
Abroad
AVA CREAN, of Back 2 Boston Running Club AC, stormed to an Irish U23 10km road record in Valencia stopping the clock at 32:46. She had for company two other Limerick women with Sorcha Nic Domhnaill second O40 lady in 32:21 and her sister Ide fourth O40 lady in 34:31. West Limerick clubmate Killian Lynch crossed the line in a superb PB time of 32:13.
County Juvenile
Well done to all who took part in the Limerick County Indoor Championships in Nenagh. Details available through social media feed of the various clubs.
Parkrun
Both city Parkruns again fell victim to widespread ice. Darragh Murphy (19:20) and Maeve Doody (19:29), with two Juniors were first in Newcastle West.

The Adare 10K takes place on Sunday, February 22. Transfers take place. Also on this day is the Milford Hospice 10K.
The Dooneen AC 10 Mile 2026 in Memory of the late Michal Rejmer 2026 takes place on Sunday, March 29 from Limerick Racecourse. Now in its fifth year, the race has become a valued fixture on the local running calendar, combining strong community support with a classic road-running challenge. Entries available through Eventmaster.
