Between them, the five students - Pete Scholz, Florian Delfanti, Daniel Snider, Oskar Kosecki and Jack Siddle - committed to cycling the equivalent of 1,000 km on a stationary bike over 40 continuous hours as part of the 'Team Up, Cycling 1000 km'
challenge.

The challenge began on Saturday 6th December with the students cycling in relay throughout last weekend, including throughout Saturday and Sunday night.

As students and staff arrived to school on Monday morning, 8th December, the challenge reached its conclusion, and the 1000 km goal was reached at approximately 9.30 am.

As a result of their collective effort and endurance, the challenge has exceeded its fundraising goal of €5,000.

"We have chosen to fundraise for the Children’s Health Foundation because we want to support children who are going through difficult times in hospitals.

We are fortunate to be healthy and able to take on a challenge like this, and we believe it is important to use our energy and teamwork to help those who need it most," said the team on their fundraising page.

The staff, students and wider school community at Villiers School rallied behind the initiative, donating generously, sharing the fundraising page, and offering support during the challenge.

The Head of School, Jill Storey, said:

"We are tremendously proud of Pete, Florian, Daniel, Oskar and Jack, pushing themselves to the limit, not for personal reward, but to help children and families across Ireland. Their achievement speaks to some of the values we try to instill in every member of the Villiers community: compassion, altruism, teamwork, and resilience, and they are role models for us all."

Villiers School is a co-educational day and boarding secondary school located on the North Circular Road in Limerick. At the heart of Villiers School is its diverse community, united by shared values of inclusion and international-mindedness, and a strong sense of social responsibility.

Villiers is the only Irish boarding school which offers senior students the choice of the Leaving Certificate or the International
Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP).

The Children’s Health Foundation works to support children and their families during serious illness, providing vital funding for hospital care, family support services, and initiatives that improve the experience of young patients.

The funds raised by the Villiers School 'Team UP' challenge will help the Foundation continue its mission across Ireland.
