Limerick swimmer Denis O'Brien will represent Ireland at the European Aquatics Championships in Poland in December
A NUMBER of Limerick swimmers have been included on the 13-strong Ireland team for the European Aquatics Championships (25m) from December 2 to December 7 in Lublin, Poland.
There are three senior international debutants on the team, including Mungret's Denis O’Brien from the National Centre Limerick.
Earlier this year, UL engineering student O'Brien won gold in the 400m Freestyle at the Irish Youth and Senior Championships at the Sport Ireland National Aquatic Centre, breaking Finn McGeever's 2018 record. O'Brien, of National centre Limerick, powered home in a time of 3.56.99.
2025 World Championship team member, Clarina's Eoin Corby, also of National Centre Limerick, is also included on the Ireland team to compete in Poland. Corby competed at the World Aquatics Championships, in Singapore in August.
Corby claimed a stunning silver medal success at the European Aquatics U23 Championships in Samorin, Slovakia in June. He won his first international medal when finishing second in the 200m Breaststroke final.
Twenty three-year-old Corby became Ireland’s fifth ever European U23 medallist. Both Limerick swimmers are coached by John Szaranek.
Denis O'Brien would like to acknowledge the support of his Adopt and Athlete Programme sponsors Cobi Sport, EI Electronics Shannon, Compuscript Ltd, Pemcas and the Great National South Court Hotel who have committed to sponsoring him and his sister Lucy for four years. The talented swimmers also wish to thank Macro stainless, Brian Geary Toyota Aura Grove Island Leisure Centre.
