Limerick's Martina McMahon enjoys sucess at World Handball Championship

IT was a busy weekend for Limerick native Martina McMahon at the World Handball Championship. McMahon competed for competed for doubles and singles crown at the National Handall centre in Croke Park.

Limerick's Martina McMahon teamed up with Aoife McMahon in the Ladies opens doubles final to defeat Ciana Ní Churraoin and Niamh Heffernan. 

The Limerick and Westmeath double partners got the better of Cuileann Bourke and Ciara Mahon in straight games in the semi-final.

The double winners defeated the Tribeswomen on tiebreaker in the doubles final. 

After that contest, Martina McMahon said she was delighted to get over the line. 

“Nice to finish on a high, I suppose it makes the earlier loss a bit easier. Positive vibes now, this is three in a row for me in the doubles so I suppose I'll accept that… Onwards and upwards, this isn't the end of Marti Mac anyway" said Martina McMahon. 

Martina McMahon was narrowly defeated by Galway woman Ciana Ní Churraoin in the World Open singles final. Ní Churraoin got the better of her Limerick opponent in the tiebreak 11-8.

Martina's brother, Tom McMahon was part of the Cappagh team that won the premier junior A footbal championship. McMahon lined out at full back and he was joint captain of the team.
