Arrest made after man in his 30s dies following incident in Cork city

An arrest has been made after a man aged in his 30s died following an incident in Cork city.

Gardai are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

The incident took place in Hollyville, Hollyhill, in the early hours of Sunday.

Shortly after 4.30am, emergency services attended the scene following reports of a disturbance involving two individuals.

The man aged in his 30s was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

The scene is currently preserved for technical examination.

The office of the State Pathologist has been notified.

A second man, aged in his 50s, was arrested at the scene and is currently detained pursuant to section four of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a garda station in the Cork area.

A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the investigation from the incident room at Gurranabraher garda station.

A family liaison officer has also been assigned to support the family of the deceased.

Gardai are appealing for witnesses to the incident and anyone with camera footage to come forward.
