Cocaine worth three quarters of a million euros seized in Co Waterford

Two men have been arrested after cocaine and cannabis worth three quarters of a million euros was seized in Co Waterford.

On Wednesday, a home in Tramore was searched and around 780g of suspected cocaine valued at 54,600 euros was seized, along with 1kg of cannabis valued at 20,000 euros.

A follow-up search at a home in Waterford city resulted in the seizure of around 10kg of suspected cocaine valued at 700,000 euros, as well as some cash.

Two men, aged in their 20s and 50s, were arrested and detained at Garda Stations in the Waterford–Kilkenny Division under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The drugs seized have been sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

In a separate garda operation that took place in Dublin on Wednesday, two men were arrested after more than 100,000 euros worth of cannabis and cocaine was seized.

This formed part of a garda operation targeting an organised crime group involved in selling drugs.

The operation was carried out by the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) which searched a residential property in north Dublin and a residential property and a vehicle in west Dublin.

The searches resulted in the seizure of 63,000 euro in cash.

A man aged in his 40s was arrested and is being held at a Garda station in Dublin.

In a follow-up operation in Finglas, cannabis and cocaine with an estimated street value of 101,000 euros was seized.

A second man, also aged in his 40s, was arrested and is being held at a Garda station in Dublin.

The drugs are to be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

Assistant Commissioner Paul Cleary, with responsibility for the Dublin Metropolitan Region, said: “The significant seizures of cash and drugs and the arrest of those involved during this operation, greatly reduces the ability of this crime group to do harm in our communities.

“An Garda Siochana will continue to proactively target those who intend on committing serious crime and ensure they are brought before the courts.”
