A motorcyclist is in a critical condition and a man has been arrested following a crash also involving a car in Co Mayo.
Emergency services attended the scene of the incident following a report of a serious injury collision on Castlebar Road in Newport, which occurred at around 4.50pm on Sunday.
The motorcyclist, a man in his 50s, was discovered with serious injuries at the scene.
He received medical treatment and was conveyed to Mayo University hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.
No other injuries were reported at the time.
The road was preserved for technical examination but has since reopened.
A man aged in his 60s was later arrested in connection with the investigation.
Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
