Man in hospital following Dublin stabbing as statistics show crime on the rise

Gardaí are investigating following a stabbing incident in Dublin City centre that has left one man in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The incident took place just after 8.30pm on James Joyce Street in the city and it's believed the man received stab wounds to his leg.

Gardaí and emergency services arrived shortly after passers-by came to the mans aid.

In a statement, Gardaí said,

"Shortly after 8:30pm on Monday, 14th July 2025, Gardaí and emergency services responded to an incident on James Joyce Street, Dublin 1.

"An adult male sustained injuries during the course of the incident. He received treatment at the scene and was subsequently transported by ambulance to the Mater Hospital.

"His injuries are understood to be serious but not life-threatening.

"The scene was preserved for forensic examination and investigations are ongoing."

This follows the death of 34-year-old Joseph McEvoy, a young father and football club captain, who was killed in a machete attack in Clondalkin last week.

The Central Statistics Office reported that attempts/threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences has seen an increase of 12% from 22,106 incidents in 2022 to 24,690 in 2025.
