RIP: Motorcyclist (50s) dies in hospital following crash as arrested driver due in court

A man in his 50s has died following a crash in Waterford that left him fighting for his life earlier this week.

The crash involving a motorcycle and a car occurred around 7.40pm on Wednesday evening at Monvoy in Tramore.

The motorcyclist was rushed to University Hospital Waterford in critical condition at the time but has now sadly passed away.

Yesterday, Gardaí confirmed the driver of the car, a man in his 60s, was arrested at the scene and detained at a Garda station in the south east.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before a special sitting of Waterford District Court this evening, Friday, July 11, at 5.45pm.

Gardaí said there were no other injuries reported in the incident.

The road had been closed for a period on Wednesday to allow for a forensic collision investigation.
