ALERT: Gardai launch major probe after man dies in stabbing incident in seaside town

The fatal assault took place in Youghal, Co Cork

Investigations are ongoing

Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the death of a man following a fatal assault in Youghal, Co Cork on Monday night, April 14.

At approximately 9:50pm, Gardaí and emergency services were alerted to an assault at a commercial premises on North Main Street.

A man, aged in his 30s, was transferred to Cork University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, where he was later pronounced deceased.

A man in his 20s has since been arrested and is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in Cork County.

A number of scenes are being preserved for forensic examination by the Garda Technical Bureau. The Coroner and the Office of the State Pathologist have been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.

A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed to lead the investigation and an incident room has been established at Midleton Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer will be assigned to support the family of the deceased.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
